Choose Dental Bonding to Improve the Appearance of Your Smile

What is dental bonding?
When a person has small dental flaws like chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth, our dentist may recommend dental bonding. During the procedure, a tooth-colored material is applied to the surface of the tooth or teeth to restore the appearance of the smile. The shade of the resin material can be selected to match that of your natural teeth or a shade can be selected that lightens the appearance of the teeth.

Am I a good candidate?
Dental bonding can be used to correct many cosmetic flaws in your smile. However, if you have teeth that are crooked or gapped because of a misaligned bite, Dr. Michelle Metcalf may recommend that you visit your orthodontist.

What should I expect during treatment?
Once the shade of the dental bonding material has been selected, the surface of the tooth to be treated will be roughened. This will allow the bonding material to attach properly to the tooth. The bonding material is then applied, molded, and smoothed. A special light may be used to harden the material. Then, the material will be trimmed and shaped further. The final restoration will be polished.

How do I care for bonded teeth?
No special care is needed for bonded teeth. Simply care for the treated teeth in the same way that you would your other teeth. Brush your teeth twice daily and floss them at least once daily.
